If you are always saying there is nothing to do, we go out to eat at Mike Anderson’s for great seafood or we go to the movies at Perkins Rowe, but what else is there to do? Below are a few suggestions that are fun, will bring back memories for older adults in your life and create new memories. These activities will help you share moments of discovery and fun with family and friends.

The USS Kidd and Naval Museum located at 305 S. River Road in Baton Rouge, LA. This ship, a World War II, destroyer is restored to it’s original glory and offers a great self-directed tour. This Naval vessel offers a great look at the historical occurrences of that time as well as what it was like to live on the destroyer.

The Louisiana State Capitol located in downtown Baton Rouge, LA. It is a beautiful art deco building where politicians and state kingpins have debated and passed many legislative issues over the years.  The steps leading up to the capitol have each of the 50 states names engraved into each step with when they entered the union. It is fun to climb and discuss the various states one may have visited. The grounds of the capitol are beautiful, and the observation deck has a great view of the manicured gardens and the Mississippi River. You can sometimes go watch the hearings when the legislature is in session. You can also see where Huey P. Long was assassinated because the bullet marks are still in the wall and floor.

LSU Rural Life Museum is a historical site located at 4600 Essen Lane in Baton Rouge This is mainly an outdoor museum that features tools, furniture, and artifacts that depict the lives of 19th century plantation settlers. There are beautiful gardens with walking trails. In the fall, the museum comes to life with reenactments of the “rural life” days. Call (225) 765-2437 for information.
