Home Caregivers: Would You Like to Save a Little Cash?

March 1, 2013

caregivers at home get $5 defensive driving classWell, here’s a little bit of good news for you home caregivers on this Friday. I’m finding out a bit late in the game, but fortunately, there’s still time to act. Melanie Pinola, editor at www.lifehacker.com, shares with us the exciting news that AARP is offering their online driver safety course this month for only $5. This is a great deal, since the course is usually $20 for non-members and $16 for members. We read from AARP’s site that for the State of Louisiana, “The AARP Driver Safety Online Course is recognized as an approved Defensive Driving Course by the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections. You may be eligible for an automobile insurance reduction discount up to 10% good for three (3) years after successfully completing this course. Please check with your insurance company or agent for any additional requirements for eligibility.”

We definitely advise you to check with your auto insurance company if you’re only going to take the course for the discount, but even if it your auto insurance rates don’t change and you don’t make up the $5, the safety information is very valuable for drivers of all ages. Besides, many other driving courses offered online cost over $30, so a $5 driving course is a substantially good deal!

It’s good to know that the class can take anywhere from four to eight hours. “But I don’t have the time to finish the course before the end of February,” you may think. That’s quite alright – once purchased, you have up to 60 days to complete the course.

The coupon code you’ll need to use to receive the discount is BHM2013. The discount applies whether you are an AARP member or not. At the time you sign up for the course, you’ll need to create a login with AARP and set up a voice authentication. After that, you can take the course at your own pace.  That’s got to be good news for busy home caregivers!

And by all means, pass the good news on to your friends and family all over the country – the discount on the course applies no matter where you live in the US, and auto insurance discounts apply in many states.
